teriyaki & fingers.

...this is what results when I procrastinate doing homework: Halloween cookies! (I got inspired after my earlier posts)

The dinner I made, also procrastinating! Teriyaki chicken & veggie wraps.

I can't resist!

I know that it's Halloween and that it's probably typical to blog about cute lil' costumes, however I seriously can't resist. Especially when there are cute little infant ones!! "1000 Awesome Things"  also blogged cute baby costumes today. Oh, and Happy Halloween. I think it's a dumb holiday; I am so bad at coming up with creative costumes and don't see the point. I do, however, end up doing it on a yearly basis somehow. I was a football player this year - pictures to come still! How original and wild hey ;)

Ok, maybe not a Halloween costume, but how cute/funny is this?!

I LOVE this sushi costume. My baby is defs getting put in this.
This baby is so cute and chubby.

Ok this is Laura who I work with (in red)  and I hope she doesn't mind me using this picture but I thought their Angry Birds costumes were soooo funny! Google "angry birds" if you aren't sure what it's a popular phone game

Saw this on Pintrest - loofahs!!!

Since I've been a hardcore Pintrest follower (if you need time wasted, click here!), the food items always happen to catch my eye. I also made french onion soup for dinner last Monday but forgot to take a photo!! I was so bummed. I used a combination of about 6 recipes I found online and it turned out well. I think there were definitely a few changes I would make next time (not as much red wine vinegar, more cheese) but I would still make it again. I am trying to get back into my Monday night dinner routine these days. Any suggestions for this evening?! Keep in mind it needs to be liked by my entire family..which is difficult...sheesh! I sound like my mom :)

Here are a few fun things I like from Pintrest. Let me preface these pictures with saying that I wish I had the ability to throw parties on a daily basis!!

1. Fruit Cones - I feel like this could be used for so many things!

2. Salad in a jar! I think I mostly like this because it is so esthetically pleasing with the layers.

3. Bacon & eggs made with chocolate & pretzels! How original - it's melted white chocolate with yellow smarties and pretzel sticks.

4. I'm more of a 'cooker' than a baker but these cupcakes are freaking cute. I can't wait to have kids and make fun little things like this for their birthday parties!

5. Speaking of cupcakes, my mom must have made these frog ones a bajillion times for birthday  parties and school functions! (this isn't a picture of them, this is one I Googled) I hope I am a creative baker like my momma was for my kiddies :)

6. She also used to make these witches fingers all the time for Halloween - so yummy! Shortbread with almonds as the nails.

Happy Diwali!

In my ever continuing quest to learn about the Indian culture, I bring to you a lesson on Diwali which is happening tomorrow, October 26. (aka why so many houses have their Christmas lights up in October!)

Diwali is the "celebration of lights" and is celebrated to signify the victory of good against evil. A long, long time ago, there was a battle of two families and one was sent to exile. After their agreed upon 12 years was up, and they returned to take over the kingdom, everyone put their lights on to guide them home and welcome them. (Yes, I am paraphrasing this from a website to ensure accuracy, HOWEVER I did actually learn this in my Religions of India class!! The story of the two families battling is from the epic Mahabharta that we are currently reading...don't quote my spelling of that...)

It is also said Diwali is the birth date of the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. So, on the date of Diwali, you are supposed to leave your lights on so that she visits you and brings wealth. Another tradition is that it is lucky to buy a dish on Diwali. Why? I don't know.

Anyways, Happy Diwali!

From my Bridal Snob website as well, just not wedding related.

more wedding fun stuff

I tell ya, by the time I get married I think I will have every single detail planned out for the wedding! haha. I found this super awesome website called "Bridal Snob" which a) is awesome and b) I love the name of. Check out these fun ideas I found on the website:

I like the mis-matched bridesmaids dresses! Maybe not the mis-matched flowers though...

I LOOOOOVE this "watercolor" cake. I came across a lot of cool cakes however I am guessing they are ridiculously expensive and I am not a fan of spending a bajillion dollars on a cake!

so cute.

Love the bow on this dress. Maybe sans sleeves?

Such bright, fun colors!

Green Machine

Lil' sis got her very first CAR!! Hooray for her! She bought it from our grandparents and it's a '99 Sunfire. Aka the Green Machine. Check it out, Emma even got to go for a spin!

A Pants-Funny

My momma sent this joke to my brother the other day - since we all know he is a bit of a drinker it was quite amusing!

Health Alert:

When you drink vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure. When you drink rum over ice, it can give you liver failure. When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems. When you drink gin over ice, it can give you brain problems.

Apparently, ice is really bad for you. Warn all your friends.

Oh, Lola - Me Want!

The newest Marc Jacobs scent - I have the original "Lola" which is the same bottle but purple & now I would like this new fruity one! Plus, the bottle is just so cool. I'm a sucker for good marketing techniques.

birthday extravaganzas

I've celebrated a few birthday's over the past few weeks including my buddy JC's and my dear friend Amanda's 30th birthday! It's a good thing Amanda doesn't read my blog, so I can share my true feelings about turning 30! It freaks me out. I'm just being honest - it scares me to turn 30, even though I still have a few years! The number is so incredibly daunting to me. And she felt that way too so we tried to make a party weekend so that she didn't have to think about it. Friday night involved a surprise party that took over 2 hours to get the birthday girl to since she was grumpy about us "changing the plans", Saturday night was a house gathering with a cute puppy (see below) and Sunday was a lovely dinner with our book club gals. Overall, a fun weekend!

Shannon, JC & Lil Sis. And Riley dog!

Who knows how accurate this is, but it's kinda cute! My 4 words were: compassionate, caring, loyal and happy. What were the first 4 words YOU saw?!

stars & doggies!

I haven't been keeping tabs on my stocks ever since my finance class finished up in August! So, here is my brief report on the market...I just like to be kept in the stock market loop, in case, ya know, I end up on Wall Street?! I don't know why. I feel cool reading stock info...but have never once needed it in real life! Maybe one day?!

1. RIM
2. Beam Inc. (golf supplier)

1. S&P/TSX Composite
2. Dexia (bank in Europe)
3. Superior Plus (propane)

my sibs.

I love this phrase because it's TOTALLY my siblings. If I could photoshop one of the girls out of this picture and make them into a boy - it would be perfect! I am lucky to have such cool buddies to hang out with every day. They are there for the good and the bad, and definitely listen to my pointless drama and stories allllll day. I love them for putting up with me. Whether they realize it or not, I am grateful for them every day and love the fact that I have two best friends to laugh with, complain to and drive crazy!

choo choooo

Know what that is?? That's the sound of the Blackberry train leaving the platform and iPhone train rollin' in to the station. Whose that girl getting on the train, you ask? It's ME!! Hello again, iPhone. I've missed you. No words can express. I am glad we are buddies again.

I've used image before to express my love towards iPhones - j'adore!

I can't remember now where I found this but the line that stuck out to me the most is: "we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day." I really need to mount that on my windshield or something because some days I just wake up plain ol' grumpy. For no reason at all. Today wasn't a grumpy day, I was just tiiiiiiired. But, with a positive attitude, pretty much anything is accomplishable!

Speaking of accomplishable, we had an assignment in my creative writing class to make up words, also known as neologisms. Basically a neologism is a new word, or a word composed of two other words. For example, lovedrunk, skullcrushing and shockvertising. A lot of neologisms are slang I would say, but they are emerging in poetry and prose nowadays to add some flavor to writing. Anywho, I made up "accomplishable" I think just there...that's what sparked this tangent. It's an English FYI for y'all. Keep your brains sharp, make up some words every now and then!

blog conference

Omg. There is a blogger conference in LA November 2 - 5. Heidi, let's go on a road trip! Not only will we have fun, we will learn how to have the bestest blogs EVER! There's only a few issues: a) it's in LA b) it's $1,300 for an "all access" pass. That's a little out of my price range unfortunately... Maybe I will start with reading a book or doing some googling...

As you all know, I am a big wedding fan. As I putz around online on various websites, I come across things that are blog worthy that I share with you lovely people :) Now...if only I had a wedding of my own to day?!

I really think this is adorable - I have no idea what it could be useful or cute for but it's so fun!

Decorative puffy balls - I think a trending item, quite funky in my opinion! Love 'em.

I've posted this once before but still love, love it!

Table # idea - a photo of the bride and groom at that age!

The flower girl is wearing a tutu, I think this is awesome! It's elegant yet fun.

the day of giving the thanks

Of many, many things I have to be thankful for, great food and wine are just one of the items. Of course, the people I enjoyed it with are definitely up there in my list. I'm not going to lie, Scrabble is also up there on my list, as is Grandma's pumpkin pie!

I adore Scrabble, but did NOT adore this batch of letters I picked out to start off a game!!

My Grandpa read that this was the best wine to go with turkey - it was pretty tasty! Quite sweet, but good.

Ahhh....Grandma's famous pumpkin pie. Fantastic 'til the last crumb.

A close up version of the legendary pie! So good!

Now, I am going to head to bed soon...goodnight world!

salt water

I'm considering getting business cards made for being a house/pet sitter...I'll put my blog as my website so people can see how cute these pets are that I pet-sit and how I blog about them...haha!

See, this is my kitty of the weekend, Muffin! He's sooooo soft. He doesn't like to cuddle but he likes to be petted.

And the ocean view from Muffin's house isn't too shabby either...

Once again...

...I am having BlackBerry issues. I am so frustrated. It's the SAME issues as I was having whilst living at the lake house in August that I paid to get fixed. Obviously I will bring it back to the place where I paid to have it fixed and politely demand they re-fix it, but still!! It's a pain in the ass to have a non-functioning phone. I have to scrounge up my old iPhone and it's slow as molasses in January. Plus, it doesn't have an updated list of contacts or an updated calendar which drives me nutty - we all know how much I love my calendar!!

I will stop my rant here before I appear to be a babbling BlackBerry burner. (That's called an alliteration, FYI! Re-learned that in creative writing this week....)

Today was a long day as I started work at 7 am, worked all day, went to school 4 - 7, had a group meeting  7 -8 pm and then went to get the house keys for where I am house sitting for this weekend. I'm sleepy and exhausted, to say the least.

Now I'm going to work on some budget items that I need done for work tomorrow morning...ahh! Can I just say that I feel kinda cool being able to say I have a budget at work?! Weird!! But definitely cool.

I will leave you with this great thought for you to have sweet dreams with:

Mom, I'd like to make you this uber cool cake for your birthday...think you could handle it?! I love how it looks!! (of course, via Pintrest!)
